Seat Filler 101

What is a seat filler? Glad you asked.

A seat filler is someone who sits in empty seats at live events, awards shows and TV tapings so the room always looks full on camera. When a guest gets up, a seat filler slides in, and the show looks packed from every angle.

That’s my happy place. I’ve filled seats at more than 150 TV tapings, from The Price Is Right to Kimmel to the Grammys, and I’ve worked red carpets and premieres from New York to Los Angeles. Wherever there’s an empty seat, I’m on it.

Why Producers Put Me in the Front Row

I think I’m the best seat filler in the room, and here’s why:

  • If you want to be in the front row, you have to have the look, the moves and the outfit of someone who belongs in the front row. The front row sets the tone for the whole room, and that’s serious business! I take on that responsibility gladly. I’ve built myself for this!
  • Electric energy (it just flows through me), and I’m always smiling. The studio audience basically tells the people watching at home how they should feel, so producers want us loving every minute. I motivate the people at home to feel it too!
  • I clap at all the right moments and laugh at all the right jokes.
  • I’m loud, expressive and flexible. Move me, direct me, or leave me be. I’ll rock it, guaranteed. I don’t have off days… you’ll see.
  • Let me lead the rest of the bunch. My energy is infectious: when the audience cameras swing my way because I’m serving (and they do, a lot), everyone around me wants in, too. Who doesn’t love a camera shot to tell their friends about? So they follow suit. Follow the leader… moi! 💋
  • I’m reliable, and producers see that right away! They set themselves up for success when they boost me. It’s a win-win!

Seat filler FAQ

Do seat fillers get paid?

It depends on the event. Some seat filler gigs are paid, and many are volunteer spots where the reward is a free seat at the show.

How do you become a seat filler?

Seat fillers are usually booked through audience and ticketing companies or by the event’s producers. Show up on time, dress the part and be ready to move when they call you.

What is it like to be a seat filler?

Fast and fun! You wait in line, get placed when a seat opens up, and stay camera-ready, because you never know when the camera will land on you.

What’s the difference between a seat filler and an audience member?

Audience members hold their own seats for the whole show. Seat fillers move around, stepping into any empty seat so the room stays full. Me? I do both!
